Colchester Christmas Light Switch On 2024

Christmas in Colchester kicks off in November with the 2024 Colchester Christmas Light Switch On at the Lion Walk Shopping Centre.

Actual Radio's Tony Dibbin, from the Tony & Emma Breakfast Show host the stage with the lights being switched on by Olympic star Lewis Richardson (Colchester’s medal-winning boxer from the Paris 2024 Olympics). There will be live entertainment and family fun for everyone including your chance to meet Santa and The Grinch!

Martin Leatherdale, Manager at Lion Walk Shopping Centre says “Christmas is always a highlight in the calendar for Colchester City Centre and this year promises to be extra special. We have created a fabulous night of family entertainment for Colchester’s Christmas Light Switch On and the breathtaking Aurora Borealis light display will be an incredible highlight."

"Everything taking place on 13th November will be a brilliant celebration and will kickstart the festive season of fun in the City of Colchester. With a whole host of events and activities including late night shopping every Wednesday night throughout December ahead of the big day."

From 5:30pm - there will be live music from Jupiter Ray (the band which took Sam Ryder to stardom). Then Snow White will be on stage with special guests from Headgate Theatre before the Grinch and Father Christmas make it a very special Colchester Christmas for children’s favourite, Bluey.

At 7pm the cast of Elf the Musical take to the stage and Santa’s little helpers are followed by a not-to-be-missed performance from this year’s Colchester Has Talent winner Ivy May.

There are more big names on stage when the stars of Frozen, Elsa, Anna and Olaf, turn Colchester
city centre into their own winter wonderland. The Kingdom of Arendelle then becomes Neverland as
the cast of The Mercury Theatre’s pantomime, The New Adventures of Peter Pan, share a glimpse of
what theatregoers can expect from their fabulous festive show, alongside Colchester 2024 Olympian
medallist Lewis Richardson.

All this and more builds up to the main event of the official light switch on, which will be marked with a truly incredible Aurora Borealis light display that will fill the night sky over Colchester city centre as the stunning Christmas lights are switched on.

The Colchester Christmas Light Switch On takes place on Wednesday 13th November and will see Colchester’s city centre packed will family-friendly fun to mark the launch of the festive season and a brilliant build up to the big day.

Switching on the Christmas lights in Colchester marks the start of a festive season full of fun in the
city centre, with families able to come and meet Father Christmas in his grotto. You can book tickets
from November 13th inclusive. Enjoy incredible live music including a special visit from Oaziz on the
November 19th and a festive Oompah Band on December 14th, plus late-night shopping and live
entertainment every Wednesday throughout December.
