The Colchester Round Table have announced their popular winter Santa sleigh will be making an appearance this summer to help collect food for families in need.

Members of the Colchester Round Table 367 and friends have agreed to assisting Santa with this worthy task. The Colchester Foodbank collections will take place on four nights between 15th to 18th June starting at 6pm each evening.

It’s reported Santa was on his way to the North Pole after completing a few errands for Mrs Claus. The lock down occurred as he was flying over Colchester which meant he had to park his sleigh and self-isolate. He received confirmation that he was not vulnerable (probably due to his special abilities) and decided to help the good people of Colchester whilst here. Given the increasing amount of food poverty during these uncertain times, he contacted Colchester Round Table 367 and the Colchester Foodbank to arrange local food collections.

If you can spare a single item or a small bag of non perishable food items, please leave them in a plastic bag at least two meters from your door or at the end of your street by the road sign. We won’t be accepting any cash donations during Santa’s summer visit.

All of Santa’s helpers will wear gloves and masks and ensure social distancing guidelines are adhered to.

Unlike their military operation at Christmas, Members of the round table will designate an area, and operate until they are full of donations or out of time. Whilst there will be no Christmas carols, there will be plenty of cheerful music to help keep spirits high.

For difficult roads, runners will collect donations while the sleigh stays at the top of the road.

Please do come and wave, but please maintain your distance between others in your street.

Additionally we are aware Santa will be collecting with the Colchester Community First Responders on Saturday 30th May in the Mile End area. We wish him all the best with his efforts.
