Venue Change for Colchester “Nearly Festival”

Organisers of this year’s Colchester Nearly Festival are upbeat about a late switch to the Old Heath recreation ground from Castle Park. It’s good news for nearby residents, who will be offered tickets to the popular family event and advance ticket holders have been notified.

The two-day music festival was due to take place at Castle Park on August 3-4 but it can only host three loud music events a year. Tom Jones and Craig David were already scheduled to perform with Tears for Fears added to the summer line-up last month.

After two successful years in Castle Park the Nearly Festival has been moved to another local authority green space in Colchester Town.

Due to conditions on the licence at Castle Park, the popular family festival has had to move so the park can host a third large scale touring concert by the national promoter who brought Simple Minds and Steps last year and Tom Jones and Craig David this year. The Park can only host three loud music events per annum so The Nearly Festival has had to move to make way for a third, this is after announcing the date and going on sale at the end of last year.

Over 3000 local festival goers enjoyed The Nearly Festival in Castle Park last year over two days.

The Nearly Festival is a local family friendly tribute band festival that offers a cheap and local alternative to conventional festivals and offers a main stage with the UK’s best tribute bands – Headliners have included fully live tributes to The Prodigy, Oasis, Queen, Bob Marley, Coldplay, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Bruno Mars & many more over the last two years. It also caters for children with lots of interactive activities and sports, many of which are free. It also showcases local businesses, charities and initiatives.

With support from the Council events team we have investigated all potential opportunities with regards licensing to no avail so are moving to a new location.

A spokesperson for the festival said: “We are really disappointed to be moving from the fantastic Castle Park but its not all doom and gloom, we are being moved to another great location in the Town”

This year’s Colchester line-up includes Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Bob Marley and The Wailers, Britpop, Ed Sheeran, The Foo Fighters, Madness, Michael Jackson, Nile Rodgers and Chic, Oasis, Queen, The Spice Girls, The Stone Roses, Take That and The Specials.
